Maybe change the pace with an upcoming post and try something from the "video nastie" list of banned films back in the good old days of VHS in the early 80's.
I'm sure Mob and Skincrawler would appreciate it, even if they're not the sort of thing to frame and mount in the living room...
Al- This one is just a bit of cheezy fun for my pals, nothing I would even come to close to owning hence the complete lack of superlatives. Hmmm, haven't the slightest idea what your "video nastie" list is, but I'll check into it, thanks.
Banzai- I think that's kinda the idea, or at least the artist is trying for a gothic vibe.
It took me a day to post about this because I couldn't remember the name of the artist, but my memory finally kicked in; this one reminds me of the style of American portrait artist John Singer Sargent's style
I don't say this because I'm an expert in art-- I only know of Sargent's work because I got a print of Sargent's painting El Jaleo, which features a Flamenco dancer, as a gift for my now-ex-wife Cynthia to hang in the Flamenco Dance Studio we owned (she still owns it). The use of light and dark and stark color contrasts reminds me of his style, particularly in El Jaleo, but also his other paintings. El Jaleo is on the wikipedia article.
johnny- Yeah, I can see it. Italian poster artists have a very rich, classical look to their work. Probably flatout the best illustrators of their kind in the world. Amazon has two gorgeous books dedicated to Italian film posters specifically.
