This is just one of my many favorites. I haven't seen it in a few years, now Bucky has something to do with his time...to track it down for me. yeah! :)
You go pook! Criterion has My Man Godfrey in their catolog, a bit pricey but you get a PRISTINE transfer. It's not the least bit murky and the sound is also fantastic.
My college (Eastern Illinois University) had a film society-- they show things like Sam Fuller's "Naked Kiss" and Fellini movies. They showed "My Man Godfrey" and I just fell in love with it. I never got tired of seeing it.
William Powell was an amazing actor. I loved the "Thin Man" movies. To this day, my father and I love watching the first one together-- where he's shooting the Christmas ornaments on the tree with the BB gun Nora got him for Christmas.
Johnny- That has got to be one of the best scenes in the whole of cinema.
Nick Charles: I'm a hero. I was shot twice in the tribune. Nora Charles: I read where you were shot 5 times in the tabloids. Nick Charles: It's not true. He didn't come anywhere near my tabloids.
Course, the actors bring those lines fully to life. The whole movie is just chock full of wit and sexual innuendo. I love it. Course, Dashiell Hammett is one of my fav writers to begin with. I wish more of Powell's earlier work was available on dvd like the Philo Vance stuff.

I haven't, but will add it to the neverending rental list so I can ignore it with more of a concentrated effort.
Also WTF is she doing on his shoulder? He masquerading as a dapper Fireman? Lol
You've never seen it! I suppose you haven't seen the 1st Thin Man also starring Powell not to mention the rather delectable Myrna Loy? tisk, tisk...
She's on his shoulder cause it's a zany screwball comedy with much hijinks that would get you or I slapped silly, that's why.

Pookie- De nada.
I haven't seen this in ages. To be remedied soon.
Not loving (or even having seen!! what a treat, though!) the Thin Man movies is a crime. Soooooooooo need to view those again, too. Damn.
Ellen- I couldn't agree more. I never tire of them esp the first one.
