Obama

Nothing to do with film posters (obviously) but if we're fortunate, he'll be the 44th President of the United States. God help us if he isn't.

Saw this image everhwere in Greensboro -- also with other captions like "Hope" and "Yes We Can." Inspiring.

The poster is by the stencil graffiti artist Shepard Farley of Obey Giant fame. Great stuff.

I have to say with the credit swap/ mortgage backed, over-leveraged securities crisis looming over the ENTIRE global financial system, I sure as hell hope people have the sense NOT to vote for a free-market Republican like McCain. That's the very last thing we need.

Donate to Obama's campaign today!

I've decided to delete any comments made concerning Obama being a Muslim, the Anti-Christ or any racially tinged slurs, which are all either lies, irrational fears or prejudices propagated by the slimy far Right-Wing Republican attack machine.

If folks want to leave comments based on rational, policy oriented grounds (that are FACTUAL), that's more than fine by me. Let's have that debate. With two disastrous wars and a literally bankrupt economic governing philosophy, the Republicans (and to be fair, some Democrats) have much to answer for.

Great poster. I really think things are going to go well, but the last 8 years have REALLY taught me not count my chickens...kwim?

I once went to bed thinking Gore was president!

No counting chickens here, believe me... I'm your typically nervy-Democrat despite Obama's current lead. The thought of a Pres. Palin scares the shit outta me, and not just for cultural reasons. What a colossally irresponsible V.P. pick! McCain can't possibly be really serious about the economy, let alone either wars.

To just stop and think if Gore had won -or not been cheated - how different the world would HAVE to be right now... It's mind boggling.

Gives truth to the cliche of going to bed dreaming and waking up to a living nightmare. I think I'll skip sleeping election night just to avoid being bitterly disappointed again..

i have the "change" poster by shepard fairey - slightly different art, same colors, shepard fairy grew up near me and i have been fond of his work for a long time, of course i have a large andre - i too collect vintage film posters, my favorite piece of my collection is an argentine 2 sheet for "east of eden" - it's a heavy piece of glass but a great piece of art - i have a spanish "birds" and a nice "strangers on a train" (the blue ink on white background from the first re-release and a mexican "jamaica inn" from 1940 (1st mexican release) on that crappy mexican paper
-
if only i had more walls!!!

A fellow film poster collector... Excellent! Very nice, discriminating collection you've described. I've actually gotten to where I prefer foreign paper; so much more creative than US releases (for the most part that is). Though most of my collection consists of Hitchcock original US releases ("Vertigo" one-sheet, "North By Northwest" one-sheet, "Man Who Knew Too Much" one-sheet, "Dial M For Murder" half-sheet, "Strangers On A Train" half-sheet, "Rope" three-sheet, and a "To Catch A Thief" three-sheet), I have a couple french le grande ("The Third Man", and "In A Lonely Place"- one of my faves)a smaller french "The Big Clock", a spanish "Big Combo", a polish "Shane" and finally, a polish "Spellbound". As you can imagine, I've run out of wall space myself! Fortunately, my wife is a tolerant soul.

Shepard's Obama has certainly become a very iconic image and rightfully so. Great stuff.

I raise my wine glass to you, HOORAY!

The relief I feel just isn't even funny.

CHEERS!

I feel the exact same way. I voted a couple of weekends ago and I felt some of the burden lift off my shoulders then, but nothing whatsoever like now. I feel fucking jubilant! lol
