I prefer the original obviously.
The 1950's one has marketed it as more of a "big" monster movie with the torches/flamethrowers setting it more modern day. Plus, he is painted from a low angle stressing his size and imposing presence - as the frightened looking lady screams on!

The original has that early 20th century feel, with a Howard Carter sense of adventure, mystery and a far more slinky looking lady who is far from frightened.

I know which I want on my wall!

Very nice descriptions Al. Thanks for playin. I'll hold off on my choice until a number of other folks have chimed in. (hopefully)

Sorry - I pressed "publish" before I'd finished.

Both are great posters - but the original is a classic. The second one is a tad unoriginal and generic ~ probably very similar to a lot of ads from around that era, and hence looses a few points from the Al-ometer.

The colours on the original are awesome!

it's a tough call...
i like them both.
the top one seems like a typical poster from a big budget studio. it has a classic feel.
the second one is really neat and feels like it was from a small indie studio. i would own both for the contrast in styles.

i like the later one. i suppose because i like christopher lee mostly.

usually i love the vibrant orange and red colors, but in this one i prefer the greys and the atmosphere it invokes

The first one is my favorite, I like the color scheme and the overall Basil Gogos feel of it.

Very lurid and inviting, like a tarted up carny.

Although I like them both, I'd have to go with the second because, and I'm not sure I should be admitting this, but it reminds me a lot of the drab colours from Scooby Doo. There, I said it. The artisry and design in the first is superior but the "tarted up carny" colours kill it for me. Yet another example where Blanco and I have the same tastes, luckily for me.

Thanks to all for playing.
